News Richard Haskayne, whose name decorates the center hall at the University
of Calgary's school of business, will be paying an evening speaker visit this
upcoming Thu., Sept. 21. Apart from his $16 million contribution to the
university, Haskayne is a renowned Calgary businessman and currently holds over
four Director and Chairman offices of major energy and financial institutions.
He is also Director emeritus of the U of C's Board of Governors. Haskayne's
visit to campus is being facilitated by the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, with which
he himself is a life long member and alumni. "Kappa Sigma pledges the sharing
of knowledge and life experiences amongst our members to the betterment of each
member," said Fraternity President, Patrick Taylor. "I thought that since we have
such a powerful and knowledgeable alumni such as Haskayne, then why not go after
him to share with us his insight and life experiences." Haskayne joined
Kappa Sigma in 1955 while completing his Bachelors of Commerce in Accounting at
the University of Alberta. He will be speaking on the topic of Success in Business
and will be sharing examples of key life experiences. The speech's topic was collectively
chosen and agreed upon by Kappa Sigma student members. "I see that the
topic is of interest to so many of our students," said Taylor. "This will be an
opportunity to learn directly from the expert and find out what steps he has taken
to achieve what he has achieved." Haskayne was made an Officer of the Order
of Canada and in June was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame. |
