library at U of T is named for Former Premier of Ontario John P. Robarts, Delta
Upsilon Alumni of Western Ontario Chapter (1939). The
Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse at U of T is named for the late philanthropist
Alpha Phi Helen Gardiner Phelan (AF
Xi Chapter, initiated 1939). Rt. Hon.
William Lyon Mackenzie King, former Prime Minister of Canada and Vice President
of the League of Nations was initiated in Kappa Alpha Society's VT Chapter in
1895. Rt. Hon. Lester B. Pearson, another PM of Canada, was initiated in
Delta Upsilon's Toronto Chapter in 1919. As most Canadians know, this DU
is a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. Rt. Hon. Paul Martin, twenty-first Prime
Minister of Canada, joined Psi Upsilon's Nu Chapter in 1961. Mr. Martin also served
the Liberal government as Finance Minister. Roy McMurtry, Chief Justice
of Ontario, former Canadian Commissioner to England (1985-1988) and former Chairman
of the Canadian Football League joined ZY's Theta
Xi Chapter at U of T in 1952. U of T is home to the oldest Canadian NPC
chapter! Alpha Phi's Xi chapter has been in continous operation since its charter
in 1906. Delta Gamma Women's Fraternity has donated more than CND$100,000
to the Campaign for the University of Toronto. U of T is a favourite colonization
campus for many NPC and NIC groups! Kappa Alpha Theta, Zeta Psi and several others
become International organizations upon the chartering of their U of T chapters.
KAQ and ZY were the
first National Panhellenic Conference (1887) and North-American Interfraternity
Conference (1879) groups in Canada. |
