SHELLEY VAILLANCOURT,
Delta Phi Epsilon - President, Canadian Interfraternal Association
Shelley Vaillancourt began her Greek experience in the fall of 1996 when she joined the Beta Sigma chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon at the University of Ottawa. She became an alumnae volunteer 5 years ago working in Chapter Operations and Membership Development. She currently serves as the Chapter Management Operations Coordinator for Delta Phi Epsilon International. She has also worked with the Greek Organizations at Carleton University, advising both the Greek Council as well as the College Panhellenic Association.
From Monday to Friday, Shelley works as a database manger for Census Operations at Statistics Canada. While working full-time, she continues to pursue her Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science at both the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. She hopes to complete her degrees before the next Census (2006!!) - After that…a Masters degree in Public Administration…or Law School…maybe.
When not working, or going to school, Shelley can be found in suburbia (Orleans, ON) hanging out with her roommate (a fellow DPhiE!!), spending time with friends and family, and during the summer months – playing softball…badly. She is also a passionate hockey fan and was absolutely overjoyed when the NHL lockout was finally over!
RANDY NANJAD, Phi Delta Theta - Vice President, Canadian Interfraternal Association
Keynote Speaker: “A Transition Point” (Level 5 Leadership and Organizational Development)
Workshop Facilitator:
Interest and A Pulse (Redefining the Way We Recruit);
Canada’s Role (Symposium of the Future of Greek Life in Canada);
Goal Setting and Recruitment (Getting the Most out of your Chapter Advisory Board, Alumni Club, and Housing Corporation)
Having studied on Canada’s maritime coast, followed by two intensive years as a traveling Leadership Consultant, Randy Nanjad offers a unique perspective: he’s seen smaller chapters who redefined their international organizations, large established groups on the verge of self-decimation, and participated in one of the major expansions into Canada. His no-nonsense brand of presentation is met with a dry humour, and silly anecdotes to appeal to the new recruit through the most hardened fraternal veteran. Presently a member of the Beta Tau Housing Corporation (for U of T’s AOII chapter), he has done over 700 hours of presentation on Greek life for a variety of audiences. Outside of Greek life, he remains a busy Marketing Professional, a novice curler, a bad golfer, an avid moviegoer and reader, and can often be found hunting down deleted Smiths singles or checking out the local indie act at the Opera House.
GARETH McVICAR, Delta Upsilon - Coordinator of Fraternity & Sorority Life, The University of Manitoba
Workshop Facilitator:
Somewhere Out There (Recruiting Alumni Volunteers for Long Term Success)
Programming 101 (You Are What You Teach)
Rewards and Rebuttals (A look at how to effectively support Canadian chapters, and deal with "That Won’t Work Here")
As the University of Manitoba’s first Coordinator of Fraternity & Sorority Life, Gareth McVicar has spent the last 10 months working to promote the positive image of Greek life on campus. In that time, he has enabled Greeks to become involved in varying degrees with the departments of Student Recruitment, Student Advocacy and University 1, and has also introduced programs like New Member Council and President’s Council at the undergraduate level. With the help of the University of Manitoba’s Alumni Association, and a group of avid Greek alumni, he also planned “It’s Still All Greek To Me,” to coincide with Homecoming 2005. Gareth has also just started a term as Delta Upsilon Fraternity’s Province 9 Governor. Outside of Greek life, he splits his time between running McVicar Productions - dedicated to the promotion of Winnipeg’s talented youth - travelling, singing, going to the theatre, and anxiously awaiting the day when he can read the 7th and final book in the Harry Potter series.
